Endoscopic Service
The Endoscopic Service of "IZMIRLIAN" MEDICAL CENTER is one of the founders of endoscopy in the Republic of Armenia and was formed in 1976 on the basis of the Proctology Department of the 8th Hospital of Yerevan. Over these years, more than 150,000 planned and urgent diagnostic endoscopic examinations have been performed.
Since 1979, the Service has been supplemented with new complex instruments and equipment, and examinations began to be performed on urgent indications (detection of sources of bleeding in different parts of the gastrointestinal tract, assessment of the degree of bleeding, if possible, stopping bleeding, diagnosis of the causes of intestinal obstruction and, in some cases, their endoscopic treatment, removal of foreign bodies).
For the first time in the Republic of Armenia, fibroendoscopy was used for surgical purposes, more than 5000 polyps and papillar neoplasms were removed from the esophagus, stomach, and various parts of the colon in more than 3500 patients.
In 1982, the Service was supplemented with a video endoscopic complex from the Japanese Company "OLYMPUS", which made it possible to perform video recordings and accumulate a large amount of archival materials.
The accumulated experience and technical base of the Endoscopic Service have enabled more than a dozen doctors to be trained in the specialty of endoscopy, and many of today's leading specialists received their first baptism in the field of endoscopy on our base.
