Traumatology and Orthopedics Department
The Orthopedics and Traumatology Department was established in 2001. Initially, the service was positioned as a professional service dealing with sports injuries, but also served patients suffering from domestic injuries and orthopedic diseases. Since 2013, the Medical Center has been equipped with the latest modern technologies and equipment, which allowed to apply the latest surgical approaches to the treatment of injuries.
In 2014, Professor Armen Charchyan was appointed Director of "IZMIRLIAN" MEDICAL CENTER and, together with his team, orthopedic traumatologists Sahak Saribekyan, Stepan Matosyan and Arman Sahakyan, contributed their rich experience to the establishment of the department.
The department has turned to a department dealing with large volumes, complex traumas and orthopedics in one year, continuing the tradition of treating sports injuries.
In August 2017, Sahak Saribekyan was appointed the head of the department.
In 2017-2021, about 1,000 operations were performed annually in the department, including more than 200 endoprosthetics.
During and after the 44-day war in 2020, surgical assistance was provided to more than 250 soldiers who participated in it.
According to all indicators of efficiency of work: treatment results, low number of complications, implementation and application of modern methods, the department is among the best in the country.
Based on the diversity and complexity of the interventions performed by the department, in order to ensure work effectiveness, in 2021, It was decided to divide the department into two specialized structures. The Orthopedics and Traumatology Department continued to be headed by S. Saribekyan, and the Department of Sports Traumatology and Surgery of Large Joint was headed by S. Matosyan.
Endoprosthesis of large joints, complex revision endoprosthetics using the most modern methods and endoprostheses is the business card of the Orthopedics and Traumatology Department.
Surgical and conservative treatment of the following diseases is also carried out in the department.
- All types of upper and lower limb fractures using modern high-quality trauma implants
- Pelvic fractures using modern high-quality traumatic implants
- Damage to the ligamentous apparatus of the shoulder joint, diseases of the soft tissues of the elbow joint and the wrist area with the use of modern suture materials
- Foot deformities
- Arthroscopic treatment of intra-articular injuries of the knee joint (injuries to the menisci, injuries to intra-articular ligaments, pathological changes of the joint capsule)
Prof. A. Charchyan, being the scientific leader of "IZMIRLIAN" MEDICAL CENTER and the head of Traumatology and Orthopedics Department of YSMU, coordinates the work of the departments and provides irreplaceable help to the work of the department with his vast experience and knowledge.
