Sports Injuries and Surgery of Large Joints Department
Sports injuries differ from general traumatology problems for a number of reasons. In case of incompetent intervention, the athlete may lose his sports skills and become "unfit" for this field. Therefore, highly specialized education and appropriate technical equipment of the medical staff are mandatory conditions for the rehabilitation of sports injuries. :
In 2021 for this purpose, it was decided to separate sports injuries from general injuries and create a department for sports injuries and surgery of large joints.
Department equipment
The department is equipped with the latest technologies. The department employs highly qualified traumatologists who are constantly undergoing training.
The Most Common Injuries
The first of them is trauma to the shin-foot region. Knee joint injuries are also common: problems with the tendon apparatus and meniscus, in this case, irreversible changes, destruction of the joint and cartilage, if the diagnosis and surgical intervention are not made in a timely manner. One of the most common problems is injuries of the musculoskeletal tissues of the shoulder joint, which require a special approach in the case of so-called “overhead activity” sports (swimming, tennis, volleyball, basketball, etc.). Injuries related to the elbow and wrist joints are also common.
What has been done so far?
About 500 athletes from Armenia and abroad (Georgia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, even Germany and Nigeria) underwent surgical intervention in the department. So far, about 2500 different surgeries have been performed here, in particular, reconstructive surgeries of the cruciate and lateral ligaments of the knee joint, meniscal reconstruction surgeries, as well as reconstruction of post-traumatic cartilage defects, mosaicoplasty, etc.
Famous Athletes in Our Department
Due to the specialized staff of the department, such famous athletes as Roman Amoyan /multiple European wrestling champion/, Nazik Avdalyan /world weightlifting champion/ and others have returned to professional sports.
Legendary athletes such as three-time Olympic champion Albert Azaryan and many famous Ararat-73 football players have entrusted us with their health (with old injuries).
